Posted in Career Pathway Systems Challenges and Successes

Based on the training videos and shadowing other career coaches/employment specialist, I believe the biggest challenge I will have is keeping participants engaged and motivated to continue with the program. It is important that we communicate that this is not a one time appointment that will fix all problems ,but this is something that he/she will have to work towards every day.

I hope to have many success stories where I am able to help just one/many individuals get closer to their career simply by listening. Help them over come any person obstacles that prevent them from having their dream job.

Posted in Strategies for Addressing Communication Challenges

Communicating effectively can help create a healthy work environment.  Working in a small office staff, many people have the trendies to communicate / express their concerns to other employees instead of directly to the person.  I believe that the issue should always be addressed directly and in private with a neutral agreement. I learned most of the times, it was just a miscommunication issue and nothing that couldn't be resolved amongst themselves.

In this module I learned the importance of actively listening ,and that you are always communicating. To be a better leader you must lead by example.

Posted in Best Practices in Critical Thinking

At my previous employment, COVID19 caused everyone to use their critical thinking skills. Since, the pandemic was not something anyone was expecting we all had to adapt and think of new ways to keep our staff members employed while continue to remain open to the public community.

I am more aware that I need to be cautious of making assumptions and revaluate my way of thinking when interacting with others.  It's important to use critical thinking to identify others perspectives before assuming you know what they need/want to be successful.

Posted in Strategies for Facilitating Difficult Meeting Conversations

Preparation is key. Sending out the agenda ahead of time and any supporting documents that may need to review will allow you to stay on schedule. What is the goal/ purpose of the meeting? What do you hope to achieve? Handle distractions accordingly ,and remind everyone what the purpose of the meeting is. Also, that you can understanding someone's perspective does not mean you completely agree with it. It is important to actively listen to allow for the best possibly outcome. After the meeting send out notes that include any action items.

Posted in Inspiring Leader Attributes

My current job has several great leaders who present extensive materials, virtual and in person presentations about the services and programs that Goodwill has to offer. They have several systems in place to account for all clients that are receiving assistance ,and can provide
investors and stakeholders any needed information. This information creates a healthy partnership between all organizations ,and encourages them to continue giving each year towards our mission.
